General Questions
What is TheDock?
TheDock is a visual WordPress theme builder that lets you create custom themes without writing code. It provides a complete design system with drag-and-drop editing, real-time preview, and seamless WordPress integration.
Do I need coding skills?
No. TheDock is designed for users without coding experience. However, if you know CSS, JavaScript, or PHP, you can extend functionality with custom code.
Does TheDock work with my hosting?
TheDock works with any hosting that supports WordPress. Requirements:
- WordPress 5.0+
- PHP 7.4+
- MySQL 5.6+
Is TheDock compatible with Gutenberg?
Yes. TheDock handles theme-level design (templates, design system), while Gutenberg handles content-level editing. They complement each other.
Design & Building
Can I use my own fonts?
Yes. You can upload custom fonts in WOFF/WOFF2 format, in addition to the included Google Fonts.
Can I use my own icons?
Yes. You can upload SVG icons to use alongside the included icon libraries.
How do I create a dark theme?
- Go to Design > Colors
- Set Base color to dark (e.g., near-black)
- Set Contrast color to light (e.g., white)
- Adjust other colors accordingly
Or click "Invert" to swap Base and Contrast colors.
Can I create multiple headers/footers?
Yes. Create multiple header/footer modules in B. Layout > Modules. Assign different ones to different templates as needed.
How many templates can I create?
There's no practical limit. Create as many templates as your site needs.
WordPress Integration
Does TheDock work with page builders like Elementor?
TheDock is itself a theme builder, so it replaces the need for other page builders. However, you can use Gutenberg for content within TheDock templates.
Can I use TheDock with my existing theme?
No. TheDock generates its own theme. Your existing theme would be replaced.
Does TheDock support custom post types?
Yes. You can create custom post types in C. Build > Theme Structure and create templates for them.
Does TheDock work with multisite?
Yes. TheDock works with WordPress Multisite. Each site has its own independent configuration.
E-Commerce
Does TheDock support WooCommerce?
Yes. When WooCommerce is active, TheDock adds WooCommerce-specific styling options and templates.
Can I customize WooCommerce pages?
Yes. TheDock provides templates and styling controls for shop, product, cart, checkout, and account pages.
Performance & SEO
Is TheDock fast?
Yes. TheDock generates optimized, clean code. Performance depends on your hosting, images, and plugins too.
Is TheDock SEO-friendly?
Yes. TheDock outputs semantic HTML with proper heading structure. For advanced SEO, use plugins like Yoast or Rank Math.
Does TheDock affect page load speed?
TheDock generates standard WordPress theme files. Performance is comparable to well-coded premium themes.
Updates & Support
How do I update TheDock?
- Download the latest version from thedock.app
- Deactivate the old plugin
- Delete the old plugin
- Install the new version
- Activate
Your design data is preserved in the database.
Will updates break my site?
Updates are backward-compatible. Always backup before updating, just in case.
Where do I get support?
Support is available at thedock.app/support. Check documentation first, then contact support if needed.
Technical Questions
Where is my design data stored?
Design configuration is stored in the WordPress database, not in files. This persists through exports and updates.
Can I export my configuration?
Your configuration is tied to your WordPress installation. Backup your database to preserve your TheDock configuration.
Can I use TheDock on multiple sites?
Yes, TheDock is free and can be used on as many sites as you want.
Does TheDock work offline?
No. TheDock requires an active connection to your WordPress installation.
Troubleshooting
Why aren't my changes showing on the live site?
- Export your theme
- Clear caching plugin cache
- Hard refresh browser (Ctrl+Shift+R)
- Clear CDN cache if applicable
Why is TheDock slow/laggy?
- Close other browser tabs
- Use Chrome or Firefox
- Check your server resources
- Ensure stable internet connection
My export failed. What do I do?
- Increase PHP memory limit
- Increase PHP execution time
- Check server error logs
- Try exporting again

Can I migrate my TheDock site to a new host?
Yes. Standard WordPress migration process works:

Can I migrate from another theme builder?
You would need to rebuild in TheDock. Content (posts, pages) transfers automatically; design/templates need to be recreated.
